A wee weekend @ Anderby Creek

We're just back from a lovely weekend spent with family down south at Anderby Creek, a gorgeous wee place not far from Skegness in Lincolnshire.
We loaded up the van with food and doggies to set off on the supposed 5.5hr journey. It was not a 5.5hr journey, it was more like 7.5hrs and much of that was on the A1 which, if you know your motorways you will know is one of the most boring routes in the country,
We made a couple of stops for the dogs, Mulder & Scully, giving Mulder a great opportunity to fill up on sheep sh*t - it would seem nothing says nutrition to a hungry Red Labrador quite like the remnants of previously digested grass.
When we finally arrived at the Poplar Zareba caravan park we were in need of a beer and a proper leg stretch. The caravan park is home to privately owned static caravans and is open from March to October each year with a few touring spots, charged at £24.00 per night,
For tourers, there's electrical hook up should you need it and a really nice, clean, modern toilet block with showers - the showers are charged at £1.00 for seven minutes and operated by token. There's also drinking water, a hose and chemical toilet waste point - so really everything you need!
A note for dog owners - the touring pitches are nearest to the road and there's no fence or barrier in between, so just be mindful of untethered puppy dogs!

A short walk from the site takes you to the beach, you can follow a path to the left where you'll find a couple of nice pubs (Popa's and the Creek Tavern), a basic shop and a beach cafe selling gorgeous Jersey Cream Whippy - the pups very much enjoyed their cone, unsurprisingly Mulder ate his before anyone could get their camera out!
You can also take a right out of the site and walk along the 'creek'.
There are some really pretty villages around the site, including Alford which is so quaint they host an annual 1940s weekend, which we were lucky enough to catch!
We had really awesome weather, given the distinct lack of summer we've had in Scotland this year, it was just nice to be able to relax outdoors with the dogs, indulging in an alfresco morning coffee and evening mimosa.

Our only challenging was nighttime - it was so hot and of course we're always a bit concerned about the dogs when it's hot, so we had our shades up in the cab all weekend, the can windows open, the port hole windows open and the roof vent fully opened, just to drag some air through.
Anderby Creek is a cracking wee place and would make a nice stop for anyone worming their way along the East Coast, it's chilled enough for adults and has enough to keep children entertained, whether that's at the beach or the arcades at the nearby Chapel St Leonards.
Definitely worth a stop if you're heading down that way.
